In an historic global news conference on October 24, 2003, top business leaders joined hands with the US Peace Government in an effort to raise $1 billion for permanent world peace.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi delivered the keynote address at the press conference. Maharishi is the founder of the worldwide Transcendental Meditation movement, the Global Country of World Peace, and Peace Governments around the world.

Dr. John Hagelin hosted the press conference on behalf of the US Peace Government, a complementary government designed to bringing prevention-oriented, problem-free administration through Natural Law to America. Dr. Hagelin is a renowned quantum physicist, Minister of Science and Technology of the Global Country of World Peace, and founding president of the US Peace Government.

Other featured speakers at the New York press conference included David Lynch, Oscar-nominated film director; Robert Brown, retired corporate president and peace fund co-organizer; Robert LoPinto, real estate developer and builder of the first U.S. Peace Palace; and Lincoln Norton, successful entrepreneur.

The news conference took place at the Plaza Hotel in New York City and was broadcast live around the world by satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference call. Camera crews and media representatives packed the event, with reporters on hand from Barron's, the New York Times, Newsday, the New York Post, Money, Smart Money, the London Observer, the Boston Globe, and many radio stations.

The press conference was hosted by the US Peace Government, a complementary government dedicated to bringing prevention-oriented, problem-free administration to America.

Maharishi Calls on Wealthy to Establish Peace Fund
Maharishi spoke via satellite from Holland, addressing the New York press for the first time in 25 years. He called on America's wealthy to quickly establish a $1 billion endowment fund to create a group of 8,000 peace-creating experts in the United States to promote permanent world peace.

Maharishi said that the group, to be established by the US Peace Government, will create coherent world consciousness so that negativity does not arise anywhere on the globe and the whole world family enjoys invincibility, affluence, and peace-now and in the future.

'One billion dollars for peace is nothing compared to what is spent on war-but it is enough to save the world,' Maharishi said.

Dr. John Hagelin Presents Three-Step Peace Plan

Dr. Hagelin introduced Maharishi and described the purpose of the $1 billion drive and the programs it would help support. He outlined a three-step approach to create coherence and harmony in the national consciousness of America: immediately employ a group of 8,000 peace-creating experts to prevent stress, negativity, and conflict from arising anywhere within or outside the country;

establish a University of World Peace that offers consciousness-based education to develop the total brain potential of the students and thereby create integrated national consciousness-the basis of prevention-oriented, problem-free administration; and

establish in the nation's 200 largest cities 200 Peace Palaces, which will serve as centers for groups of 100 to 200 peace-creating experts who will radiate peace throughout the city's stressed population and create 'oases of peace' on the local level. The Peace Palaces would also offer prevention-oriented community outreach programs in businesses, schools, hospitals, and prisons.

Dr. Hagelin said that this approach to world peace was based on the most up-to-date scientific understanding of total Natural Law-the Unified Field, as described by modern physics - which governs the ever expanding universe with perfect order.

He presented extensive scientific research and modern scientific principles that validate the effectiveness of this approach in preventing violence and conflict and promoting peace and harmony in society.

Top Leaders Offer Support

Following Dr. Hagelin's presentation, several of America's top leaders, including retired corporate president Robert Brown, real estate developer Robert LoPinto, successful entrepreneur Lincoln Norton, and award-winning film director David Lynch, revealed plans now under way in cities across the country to raise from top foundations and billionaires the $1 billion endowment needed to create permanent world peace. Mr. LoPinto also announced that he is contributing $1 million towards the construction of a Peace Palace in Long Island, New York.

Maharishi offered praise for the efforts of Dr. Hagelin and the other speakers at the press conference. 'It is the readiness of the wise and competent men of America, led by Dr. Hagelin, that will save the world,' Maharishi said.

LAW ENFORCEMENT: I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. I pled guilty, paid a fine, and had my driver's license suspended for 30 days. My Texas driving record has been 'lost' and is not available.

MILITARY: I joined the Texas Air National Guard and went AWOL. I refused to take a drug test or answer any questions about my drug use. By joining the Texas Air National Guard, I was able to avoid combat duty in Vietnam.

COLLEGE: I graduated from Yale University. I was a cheerleader.

PAST WORK EXPERIENCE: I ran for US Congress and lost. I began my career in the oil business in Midland, Texas in 1975. I bought an oil company, but couldn't find any oil in Texas. The company went bankrupt shortly after I sold all my stock. I bought the Texas Rangers baseball team in a sweetheart deal that took land using taxpayer money. With the help of my father and our right-wing friends in the oil industry (including Enron CEO Ken Lay), I was elected Governor of Texas.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS GOVERNOR: I changed Texas pollution laws to favor power and oil companies, making Texas the most polluted state in the Union. During my tenure, Houston replaced Los Angeles as the most smog-ridden city in America. I cut taxes and bankrupted the Texas treasury to the tune of billions in borrowed money. I set the record for the most executions by any Governor in American history. With the help of my brother, the Governor of Florida, and my father's appointments to the Supreme Court, I became President after losing by over 500,000 votes.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS PRESIDENT: I invaded and occupied two countries at a continuing cost of over one billion dollars per week.

I spent the US surplus and effectively bankrupted the US Treasury.

I shattered the record for the largest annual deficit in US history.

I set an economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12-month period.
